Marcos Acosta
Marcos Acosta’s work is brave in spirit, daring to trust both the process and the outcome. Recently emigrated from Argentina to the Colorado West by way of Chicago, he captures the vibrant energy of the city with the same mystery and intrigue that he applies to observing and dissecting the natural landscape. His exploration of both natural and man-made worlds continues to cycle around the question, “What of nature is in us, and what of us is in nature?” -

Evan Hecox
Denver-based artist Evan Hecox sees the world through the eyes of an observant traveler. He tenaciously absorbs the cultures of each urban landscape and synthesizes a sense of place through paintings based upon lived experience, literature and music. With an elegant grit, Hecox incorporates an abstract language that echoes the heartbeat of his subjects. Vintage newspapers are often buried beneath language and line, nodding to both the past and the present as we contemplate our own place within these urban histories. -
“Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood. Make big plans: aim high in hope and work.” - Daniel Hudson Burnham, American Architect
Chicagoans are hard-working folk. Courage runs deep and ambition runs high. As a native Chicagoan myself, I was spurred on by the likes of Burnham and his transformative view of what a city could be. I grew up under the expansive skyline of his powerful words.
My own version of Burnham’s quote manifested itself in heading West. I left with the ambition to forge a new path for artists in the mountains of Colorado, following in the footsteps of other Chicagoans who had made their way to the small town of Aspen. The most famous of the early Chicago settlers were Walter and Elizabeth Peapcke. They laid a foundation in this mountain enclave not unlike Burnham’s, whereby ”make no little plans” gave way to the Paepcke’s world-renowned Aspen Institute and, as a result, an arts and culture community at an international scale. Artists, writers, and intellectuals continue to find their way to Aspen, as do the many Chicagoans who have established a second outpost in the mountains.
This presentation proudly captures the renegade spirit so prevalent in both towns through the eyes of two outsiders peering in yet harnessing the essence of all that Burnham offered. Make No Little Plans in this context celebrates the bridge between the rugged landscapes of the American West and the hard-working, deeply rooted values of this great American City.
