Park House, a private members’ club dedicated to curating world-class, culturally enriched experiences, teamed up once again with Hexton to bring exceptional art to its spaces. Following the success of two exhibitions programmed by Hexton at Park House’s Dallas location in 2022, they partnered to present a new series of solo presentations spotlighting our artists — beginning with the work of Liz Nielsen.
Liz Nielsen’s practice existed at the dynamic edge where photography met painting. Her fascinating process was an intricate dance of light, color, and movement. She prepared custom paper cutouts and rehearsed her gestures before ever entering the darkroom, choreographing each composition as though it were a performance. Working in complete darkness, she arranged the shapes on photosensitive paper and then “painted” with light, exposing the paper to different colored beams before finishing with traditional chemical development.
The result was a body of work that reinvented a primitive photographic technique without a camera, positioning Nielsen as a true pioneer at this vibrant intersection of photography, light, and color. The presentation at Park House offered a rare opportunity to experience this groundbreaking work firsthand.
