Hexton Gallery presents a new body of work by Argentine artist Marcos Acosta at the 2026 U-Haul Art Fair in New York City, continuing the artist’s ongoing exploration of landscape as a site of memory, perception, and reflection. Founded by Jack Chase and James Sundquist, U-Haul Gallery takes the exhibition outside the conventional gallery environment, staging temporary presentations within the cargo spaces of rented box trucks.
For Acosta’s presentation, this enclosed and unconventional setting creates a concentrated encounter with a new series of paintings that move between landscape, memory, and perception. Building upon ideas first introduced in his Is This a Mirror? paintings, Acosta pairs atmospheric natural and urban landscapes with distilled geometric forms that suggest mirrors, portals, and polished surfaces. Intentionally ambiguous, these elements interrupt the painted image while resisting any fixed interpretation. The landscapes similarly avoid depicting identifiable locations, drawing instead upon memories, fleeting impressions, and dreamlike states that occupy the space between recognition and imagination.
Throughout his practice, Acosta has approached landscape as more than a representation of place. In this series, it becomes a reflection of lived experience, shaped by the shifting relationship between what is seen, what is remembered, and what is imagined. The paintings invite viewers to consider whether they are looking into a landscape, through it, or back toward themselves.
Presented together within the intimate dimensions of the truck, the works form an immersive installation that extends beyond the individual paintings. The enclosed space heightens their sense of atmosphere and offers a concentrated encounter with Acosta’s evolving visual language.
Together, the works propose landscape as a threshold: a place where memory, perception, and the act of looking converge.
About Marcos Acosta
Marcos Acosta (b. 1980, Córdoba, Argentina) is a visual artist whose work explores the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Rooted in painting and drawing, his practice also encompasses sculpture, engraving, video, and installation, maintaining a sustained engagement with materiality, perception, and place.
Raised near the Sierras de Córdoba, Acosta draws upon the raw landscapes of his upbringing to develop a visual language in which the human and the elemental converge. His paintings often move between observed environments, personal memory, and imagined space, considering landscape as both a physical presence and a reflection of lived experience.
Over the past three decades, Acosta has presented more than forty solo exhibitions and participated in over one hundred group exhibitions throughout Latin America, the United States, and Europe. His work has been shown through institutions and international art fairs including Art Miami, EXPO Chicago, the Aspen Art Fair, arteBA, SWAB Barcelona, and Mercado de Arte Córdoba.
