Hexton Gallery was pleased to announce Mt. Tam at the Bolinas Museum, marking the first institutional solo exhibition by Terri Loewenthal. Renowned for her powerful landscape photography, Loewenthal focused her lens on Mt. Tamalpais, an iconic Bay Area landmark, unveiling a striking new body of work created entirely close to home.
Loewenthal reflected, “A landscape photographer is accustomed to being out there. With Mt. Tamalpais, out there was right here. Our beautiful Bay Mountain was always in view, rising from the Pacific and falling into the bay, but up close it was many different things.”
Captured during mid-week solitude and the off-season, these images revealed the mountain’s most ethereal moments—free from human presence and alive with shifting light and color. For Loewenthal, Mt. Tam represented “the closest thing to a studio practice I have ever known.”
