About Hexton Gallery
Founded in 1995 by Robert Chase, Hexton Gallery builds upon the Chase family’s legacy in gallery development, artist representation, and 20th-century masterworks. Originally located on New York’s Upper East Side, the gallery later moved to Chicago, where it focused on producing artist-driven projects and curating exhibitions for galleries and institutions around the world.
Hexton Gallery Aspen opened in 2018, relocating to its newly renovated space in 2021. The gallery now hosts an expanded program featuring today’s leading mid-career and established contemporary artists. In addition to its annual exhibitions and international art fair participation, the gallery publishes editioned prints, sculpture, and artist books, alongside select institutional collaborations.
Hexton Gallery also presents historic exhibitions that revisit the legacy of 20th-century icons and their contribution to the development of Aspen’s long cultural history. Such exhibitions include Gravity’s Pull, Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Ephemeral Nature, No Straight Lines, and In Plain Sight. This commitment to bridging contemporary practices with historical context defines Hexton’s unique approach to curating, collecting, and engaging with art today.
Adjacent to the gallery’s activities, Hexton’s Art Advisory has guided collectors for over 30 years in the acquisition and sale of important post-war and contemporary paintings and sculpture. With dedicated partnerships internationally, the gallery offers exclusive access to private collections across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Hexton also provides expert consulting for clients navigating the auction market, leveraging strategic relationships with major houses to maximize client earnings on the consignment/sales side, and access to guarantees and advice on the acquisition side.
