Expo Chicago 2025
April 24 - April 27Art critic and novelist John Berger once wrote, “For the artist, drawing is discovery.” Drawing is an act of looking, thinking, and making—all at once. Drawing is more than a tool; it is a way of understanding the world, tracing the connection between the eye, hand, and paper.
Bringing together works by Marcos Acosta, Evan Hecox, Andy Millner, Richard Carter, and Carlos Rolón, Eye, Hand, Paper highlights drawing as both process and practice. Some use drawing to map the contours of memory and place, while others let the hand wander, allowing intuition to shape the form. What unites them is the notion that drawing is not just an artistic act but a way of thinking in itself—an exploration of space, movement, and material.
Presented at Expo Chicago 2025, this exhibition invites viewers to see drawing not as a mere step toward a finished work, but as a language of its own—one that reveals the world not as it appears, but as it is experienced.
In connection with our booth presentation, Hexton was invited to participate in In-Situ, curated by Jessica S. Hong. This edition focuses on artist collaborations, highlighting the lifelong partnership between Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
Their alliance was built on complementing each other’s strengths and talents. Christo began with the vision or idea, producing drawings to conceptualize as well as fund the projects, while Jeanne-Claude helped bring these ideas to life, overseeing the execution and production to make them a reality.
Together, our booth presentation and participation in In-Situ reflect Hexton Gallery’s ongoing commitment to bridging historic and contemporary art through curatorial dialogues that revisit and reframe cultural history. -
